Arya Samaj Wedding may not have a long list of Hindu traditions, but it has a unique process done with passion and pride. As they do not believe in idolatry, Arya Samaj Mandir marriages are performed by chanting Vedic mantras in the presence of fire and other witnesses. The mantras chanted during the ceremony were translated into a language that both could understand.
This is to enable couples to understand the meaning and importance of the mantra and apply it to their married life.

Arya Samaj Temple Weddings differ from traditional Hindu weddings in the absence of complex and short ceremonies. The wedding will last for an hour and will cost a fraction of the cost compared to a traditional Hindu wedding. In fact, there is no pre-wedding ceremony.

1. MADHUPARKAA

The first Arya Samaj wedding ceremony, performed upon the arrival of the bride and groom, represents a happy and prosperous marriage, the lure of the sacred Vedic hymns and their translation by Pandit Yes. Next is the wreath-sharing ceremony, where the bride gives the wreath first to the groom. “Madhuparka” is a mixture of honey, curd and milk. His fiancee gave the groom two glasses of water, poured it at the feet of the groom, poured it all over his body, and drank it three times. Similarly, after offering the mixture to Almighty God, the groom does the same three times before taking Prasadam.

2. YAGNA AND KANYADAAN

Yagna begins with the groom putting on the sacred thread in this Arya Samaj wedding ceremony. The ceremony in which the bride’s father marries his daughter to the groom is called Kanyadaan. This ceremony means that the father has now handed over the responsibility of his daughter to his husband.

3. HAVAN

Since Arya Samaj does not believe in idolatry, a fire burns in the middle of the mandap as a holy witness. Pujari or gurukul provides all the details needed for the wedding ceremony.

4. PANI GRAHAN SANSKAR

Bride and groom hold hands and chant the mantra, promising to love each other, care for each other and meet each other’s needs for life.
After that, the bride and groom perform “parikrama” around the sacred fire.

5. SHILAROHAN

In this Arya Samaj wedding ceremony, the bride’s mother places the bride’s right foot on a stone while the groom chants a mantra given by the scholar. The symbolism of this ceremony reflects the relationship between the bride and groom. The ceremony also symbolizes the couple’s prayer to God to strengthen their relationship.

6. LAJAHOM

Lajahom is the ritual before Shilarohan. This ritual involves throwing Murmura (corn) into the fire. The bride and groom hold hands and offer them to the sacred fire. Marriage is a traditional process in the local samaj mandir.

7. PHERE

After completing all the above procedures, the bride and groom should take four turns around Agni. The sacred fire sees the bride’s sari and the groom’s angavastra tied in three knots.

8. SAPTAPADI

The couple took seven steps or “Saptapadi” as a sphere, then walked around the ring of fire.
The two walked side by side holding hands. Also, the bride and groom perform the Hriday Sparsh mantra ceremony. In this scene, they both touch each other’s hearts and promise to be faithful to each other.

9. SINDOOR AND MANGALSUTRA

In the closing ceremony, the groom puts the sindoor on the bride’s forehead and ties a mangalsutra around her neck.
They give each other candy and promise to take good care of each other from now on. An aria samaj wedding ends with the couple gazing at Dhruv or the North Star and receiving blessings from their elders.
